Ballard FC returns home to Interbay Stadium in an effort to defend their spot in first place in the USL2 Northwest Division standings after a long weekend on the road and a 2-1 victory against OVF Alliance. The two clubs will square off once more this coming Friday, June 24, each looking for a win to seal a postseason position. With a 2-3-1 record, OVF Alliance currently sits in third place for the USL2 Northwest division. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM.
To celebrate Ballard’s Nordic roots, Ballard FC has made Friday’s match ‘Nordic’ themed.
Ballard FC has chosen to celebrate Ballard’s Nordic roots due to the large influence that Scandinavian culture has had on the community. Scandinavian immigrants discovered thriving industries linked with the trades that had been in their family for generations as well as a natural setting that reminded them of the fjords and woods back home in the Pacific Northwest.
From the 1880s to 1910, almost one in ten Ballard residents were of Scandinavian descent, many starting businesses such as Pacific Fishermen Shipyard, which still exist today.
