Ballard FC returns home to Interbay Stadium after a dominant weekend that saw them pick up two more victories in an effort to hold onto first position in the USL2 Northwest Division standings. Ballard FC will face off against second-ranked Capital FC on Friday, July 1, both teams seeking a victory to solidify a postseason spot. This is Ballard FC and Capital FC’s first matchup. They face off again in Salem on July 10th. Capital FC is currently positioned in second place for the USL2 Northwest division, one spot behind Ballard, with a record of 4-1-2. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM.
Capital FC finished the 2021 USL2 season 9-1-1, winning the NW Division and advancing to playoffs where they lost in the national semifinal to the eventual 2021 USL2 Champions, Des Moines Menace. Capital FC was previously under the name Portland Timbers U23 but underwent a rebrand prior to the start of this season.
Friday’s match will celebrate Ballard Youth Soccer. Ballard Youth Soccer Club is a recreational club for youth ages 5-18. All youth are eligible to play and experience is not required with teams fielded at all skill levels. Together with volunteer coaches and parents, BYS develops players’ positive self-esteem, health and fair play. BYS will walk out with the players and be ball kids for the night. Additionally, there is a pre-match youth clinic from 5:00-5:50pm on the field with a technical session led by Ballard FC players and coaches and a speed and agility combine led by Salmon Bay Physical Therapy. Kids and accompanying adults must have a ticket to the match to participate and will be allowed early entrance into the stadium at 4:50pm. After the clinic, kids and accompanying adults are encouraged to watch the players warm up or hang out in the Salmon Bay PT ‘Kid Zone’.
Ticket holders should arrive early. Doors open at 5:30pm for the 7:00pm kickoff and fans will have the opportunity to enjoy a selection of Reuben’s Brews beers, including the team’s own “Up The Bridges!” – an American Pale Ale in the Reuben’s Brews Foundation Beer Garden. Birrieria Pepe El Toro food truck and Mainstay Provisions food tent will also be available to purchase food from before and during the game. With playoffs just around the corner, Friday’s match is set to leave fans on the edge of their seats.
Tickets are sold out. The game will also be broadcast live at goballardfc.com. If you can’t make it to Interbay, you can join fans and supporters at Reuben’s Brews Taproom to watch the match on the big screen.
The play-by-play broadcast will be called by Andrew and Jim Harvey and will be available starting at 6:45pm on the team homepage. A Seattle Native, Andrew Harvey is the lead play-by-play broadcaster for the MASL Tacoma Stars and performed play-by-play duties for Tacoma Defiance from 2017 to 2021. A former goalkeeper, Jim Harvey played in the first- ever NCAA Division III national championship for Swarthmore College and has worked for over 50 years as a broadcaster, coach, and referee. This father-son broadcast duo has called games together for over a decade, previously in USL League 2 as the commentary team for the Kitsap Pumas in Bremerton.
