Ballard FC continued their impressive form last night with a comprehensive 4-0 win against new local side West Seattle Junction FC. The reigning USL2 champions showcased dominance in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Memorial Stadium, including a spirited contingent of away supporters.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The match kicked off with a fast-paced and aggressive tempo from both sides. Within the opening ten minutes, Joe Dale received a yellow card for a robust challenge, setting the tone for a physical encounter.
In the 15th minute, we had our first clear cut chance. A beautifully whipped cross from Peter Kingston found Austin Brummett, whose diving header narrowly missed the far post. Just four minutes later, West Seattle’s Jake Larson was booked for a late challenge, adding to the early tension.
Ballard FC’s relentless pressure paid off in the 24th minute. Aman switched the ball over to Dale who floated a cross back post where Demian Alvarez headed it down for Austin Brummett to pass it into the back of the net, finishing off an impressive move and getting us a well-deserved 1-0 lead. The home crowd erupted in celebration, and the momentum cemented in Ballard’s favor.
The lead was doubled just three minutes later. A Peter Kingston corner to the back post was met by Christian Engmann, who powerfully headed the ball against the crossbar. The ball rebounded back into the 6 yard box leading to a chaotic scramble which resulted in an own goal, making it 2-0.
Ballard FC’s dominance continued, and they extended their lead just before halftime. Juan Alvarez set up Peter Kingston who sent a dangerous ball into the box that slipped through the hands of goalkeeper Lucas Martin, making it 3-0 at the break. The first half concluded with Ballard firmly in control, showcasing their clinical finishing and solid defensive organization.
The second half began with tactical adjustments from both sides. Ballard made a substitution, bringing on Luke Hammond for Demian Alvarez. West Seattle also made changes, switching to a more attacking formation in a desperate effort to find a way into the game.
West Seattle continued to struggle to create significant opportunities, as Ballard’s organized defense stifled their attacks. Richie Aman had a notable chance in the 53rd minute, cutting inside the top of the 18-yard box but firing his shot over the bar.
In the 61st minute, Ballard made a 5 way substitution, bringing fresh energy onto the field. This move paid off as they continued to dominate possession and create chances. The fourth goal came from a defensive error by West Seattle. Cameron Cruz blocked a ball out from the West Seattle keeper and his deflection fell to Daniel Burko, who calmly placed the ball into an empty net from 18 yards out, sending the stadium into a frenzy. The goal was made by a pair of substitutes, Cruz and Burko, emphasizing the depth of this Ballard squad
As the match progressed, Ballard FC remained in control, with West Seattle limited to only a few half-chances. In the 84th minute, goalkeeper Charlie Lanphier made a spectacular save to keep the clean sheet intact. Ballard’s substitutes continued to push for more goals, with Gaffney narrowly missing the target in the 90th minute after a long ball from Hammond.
The match concluded with Ballard FC securing the 4-0 victory. Juan Alvarez was named Player of the Match for his assist and exceptional control in midfield, dictating the tempo and helping Ballard maintain their attacking pressure.
