This Sunday, June 30th, Ballard FC will host Capital FC (CFC) Atletico at 6:00 PM. At Ballard FC, Pride and inclusion are very important to us and our community partners. Sunday is also Impact Night where we will highlight the Ballard FC Foundation and its impact on the community.
Ballard FC is a proud member of Common Goal, where one percent of our foundation profits go every year. One of Common Goal’s biggest initiatives is Play Proud, a “grassroots-driven program that works with all stakeholders in soccer to make communities and stadiums a safer space for the LGBTQ+ community.”
Earlier this year, Ballard FC’s senior leadership travelled to Atlanta to participate in Play Proud programming where we met and worked with clubs from all around the country committed to making the 2026 Men’s World Cup the most inclusive tournament in the sport’s history. As members of 2024 Play Proud cohort we cannot wait for more opportunities over the next few years to make this goal a reality.
Alongside Common Goal and Play Proud, one of Ballard FC’s community partners is Rain City Soccer Club, Seattle’s “LGBTQ+ Soccer Club with year-round programs and events for players of all skill levels, genders, and sexual orientations.” Not only is our foundation a proud sponsor, appearing on the sleeve of Rain City’s kits, but as a club we are committed to implementing their inclusive coaching. Last year, Rain City provided this training to us at Interbay Stadium and we opened it up to all Seattle soccer coaches and players, helping to make Seattle the most inclusive city for soccer.
Now let’s get into Sunday’s match itself.
Make sure to come early an enjoy all of the Pride programming at Seattle Center before Sunday’s match. If you are looking for Pride Merch, our players will be wearing Pride themed training tops before the match. These match-worn tops will be available to purchase with 100% of proceeds going towards our LGBTQ+ community partners. Stay tuned for more details.
The impact portion of Sunday will focus on our foundation. The Ballard FC foundation is very committed to Pride and inclusion, working with both Common Goal and Rain City. The foundation’s impact also extends to other areas as well. As the social impact arm of Ballard FC, “the Foundation serves as the strategic umbrella for all community work undertaken by the club both during the season and throughout the year.” Through free clinics and camps, the foundation serves to increase access to soccer in Seattle and Western Washington. This Sunday, we will be announcing new ways for fans to donate and get involved with our foundation.
In addition to Pride and Impact night, we also have a match Sunday. Let’s preview the opponent.
CFC Atletico currently sit bottom of the division standings with five points after six matches. Last time out Ballard dominated CFC, winning 8-1 in Salem. Daniel Burko and Cameron Cruz each had two goals, while Austin Brummett, Luke Hammond, Richie Aman, and Rafi Otero rounded out the socring. However, there is reason to believe that this match could be much closer this time around. Visiting teams always give Ballard FC their best shot, motivated by thousands of fans at Memorial Stadium. And, CFC scored the opener in the previous meeting this season. Fumiya Shiraishi scored a free kick only two minutes into the match to take a shock lead. The Japanese midfielder was dangerous all match, hitting the woodwork in the second half as well. After conceding the opening goal in three straight matches, Ballard FC will be looking to eliminate any early defensive errors and get on the front foot early.
MATCH DETAILS
Gates: Gates open at 4:30pm! We recommend arriving early to beat the food and beer lines, watch the players warm up, beat the hassle of traffic and parking, and to enjoy all of the prematch festivities. Also, the first 150 fans can receive the above match poster for FREE. Please note that with Seattle PrideFest happening on Seattle Center campus, parking will be extremely challenging.
Food Vendors: Beyond the thrilling soccer action, Saturday’s match will feature an array of food vendors, including Mainstay Provisions, Katmandu, Big Boys Filipino, Woodshop BBQ, Pizza Paesano, and Seattle Pops.
Ballard Food Bank: We also encourage fans to support the community by bringing donations of canned fruits and vegetables for the Ballard food bank.
Beer Garden: We’re proud to offer the Reuben’s Brews beer garden this season at Memorial Stadium, featuring Up The Bridges Pale Ale! The beer garden can only be accessed through the stadium but please note that the field is not visible from the garden. We understand this is disappointing and please trust that we’ve done everything possible to make the most of the situation. Seattle Public Schools does not allow alcohol on facility grounds. We recommend you arrive early to the stadium to grab a prematch brew or head to Reuben’s Brews Taproom in Ballard and catch the shuttle to the match.

Transportation: Parking is extremely limited and is all paid. We highly recommend alternative forms of transportation. Please consider riding King County Metro on game day, where youth through age 18 always ride free! Check out transit mode in Google Maps, the TripPlanner.kingcounty.gov website, or an app like OneBusAway.
Live Stream: Can’t make it to the match? All Ballard FC home matches will be streamed to our YouTube channel. The stream for the match this Sunday can be found HERE. Our live stream is proudly presented by Albert Lee Appliance and Dick’s Drive-In Restaurants.
