The Ballard Boys scored a touchdown and added an extra point against the Tacoma Stars Sunday afternoon, putting up their largest scoring output and margin of victory so far in 2026.
Two assists and a goal for Joschi Schelb, a brace for Emmett Layman, first-ever Ballard FC goals for Alex Villanueva, Angel Martinez and Jack-Ryan Jeremiah, and a strike from Juan Alvarez did the damage.
After a start that included a familiar level of game-control from Ballard in open play, it would be a set piece that would provide the opener. A 21st minute Joschi Schelb in-swinger was sent to the back post, where centerback Angel Martinez rose above the crowd to nod home his first Ballard FC goal.
Ballard’s second goal was a bit of class from a man that has made a habit of scoring from distance, Juan Alvarez. Juanito tried his luck from over 25 yards out in the 26th, hitting a knuckling ball that wrongfooted the Tacoma goalkeeper and snuck in on the near post.
A trio of first-half goals was completed by a first-time goal scorer in Jack-Ryan Jeremiah. After going one-two in the box with Elliot Spatz, Jeremiah pounced on a ball on the goalline after Spatz ‘initial shot was saved to make it 3-0 in the 40th.
In the first 45, Ballard outshot Tacoma 8-2, with six of their shots coming on goal compared to Tacoma’s zero.
In the second half it was once again a set piece that gave Ballard their initial goal, this time a spot-kick. In the 65th minute Joschi Schelb drove to the endline and looked to put in a cross, putting it off the hand of a Tacoma defender in the process. Schelb would convert the penalty he created, marking his third goal contribution of the match after assisting Ballard’s first two.
Just seconds after kicking back off, Ballard would swipe possession and get out a 3v1 break, with Anton Hjalmarsson sliding it across for a simple Emmett Layman finish.
The sixth goal on the night came on a third set piece in the 79th minute. This time it would be Jordy Dierks to deliver a perfect far-post ball to a waiting Emmett Layman, who took a moment to gather before blasting it into the twine.
The icing on top would be a debut goal in the 89th minute for Alex Villanueva. A perfect delivery from Zach Ramsey this time found the head of Villanueva on the back post, who made it a touchdown and extra point for Ballard, 7-0, and brought the game to a close.
