Then after joining the University of Washington as a freshman in 2023, Bertos became a defender. As a freshman, he played in 11 matches, started twiced, scored his first goal and recorded his first assist. After his freshman year, Bertos spent a summer playing USL League Two soccer back home with Seacoast United, winning the 2024 USL 2 National Championship. Bertos’ breakout year came as a sophomore with the Huskies as he played in all 21 matches and made 20 starts. He earned TopDrawerSoccer (TDS) Team of the Week Honorable Mention recognition in September and then at the end of the season he was selected in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft by San Diego FC. Then after a spring and summer of training with San Diego FC, Ballard FC, and rehabbing from injury, Bertos returned to Montlake for his junior season. Ahead of the 2025 season, Bertos was ranked 51st on the TDS Preseason Top 100 player list. Bertos lived up to the hype as he won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors in late September, TDS Player of the Week honors in early October, and moved up to 18th in the TDS Midseason Top 100 rankings. At the end of the season, he was rewarded with First Team All-Big Ten honors. Bertos still has one year of collegiate eligibility remaining.
With Ballard FC: Despite battling injury, Bertos still appeared in two of the biggest matches for Ballard FC in 2025. He played the full 120 minutes against Spokane Velocity in the Open Cup and looked to have scored a last-second equalizer that was ruled off for a controversial offsides call. Then in the USL 2 season, Bertos returned from injury for the playoffs where he helped Ballard FC hold onto their one goal lead in the National Semifinals against the Flint City Bucks.
