After a dominant 3-0 victory over FC Olympia in Ballard FC’s home opener, the Ballard boys are heading south to the capitol to take on FC Olympia once again.
This Sunday, Ballard FC finish their May schedule with a road match against FC Olympia as they look to improve to 3-0 on the season after notching their second win on Friday night over Midlakes United. This will be Ballard’s first road test of the season, and Coach Kwesele will be aiming for his first away win as Head Coach. With the Portland Bangers sitting atop the Northwest Division with 12 points after a perfect 4-0 start, Ballard FC will look to keep pace by notching another win this weekend.
FC Olympia
FC Olympia entered USL League Two in 2022 at the same time as Ballard FC. With Lane United no longer in the league, Sunday’s opponents are now the two oldest clubs in the NW Division.
FC Olympia have had an up and down four years in the league. In 2023 when Ballard FC won the National Championship, FC Olympia were the only team to beat Ballard FC and joined them in the playoffs. However last year, Olympia finished in the bottom half of the division standings.
This year, FC Olympia currently sit in seventh place out of eight teams with just three points which came from their lone win over West Seattle Junction FC. However after being blanked in their first three matches, Olympia have scored in three straight and will take some attacking momentum into their battle with Ballard FC.
Michael Divano has three of FC Olympia’s four goals this season and has scored in three straight matches. The Ballard backline will need to keep Divano quiet to find success on Sunday.
Following this match, Ballard FC will play one more match on the road against the Tacoma Stars. Then, the Ballard boys will return home on Saturday, June 6th for the nightcap of a double header as Ballard FC and Salmon Bay FC host the Portland Bangers and Portland Cherry Bombs.
